| MTP and MSA to Celebrate Centenary Year of Mara People |

MTP (Marah Thyutlia Py) Mara Youth Association and MSA (Mara Student’s Association) will celebrate the centenary year of the Mara people in Darling village, Matupi Township in southern Chin state from April 21.
Ko KhinThi, secretary of MSA said, “The year 2007 is the religious centenary year of Mara people. So the two groups will collaborate to unite all Mara tribes to celebrate the festival”. The festival will be held between April 21 and 27. Traditional and cultural dance of the Mara as well as sports competitions like volley ball and football will be organised. The MSA celebrates the social festival every year. But this year being the centenary of religious good news year it will be held together at the same time. All the members of MSA in Yangon, Mandalay, Pakkoku and Kalay Myo University as well as in other places and Mara students will participate in the festival. Besides, some singers and Mara tribes who are settled in Mizoram state, India will also participate. There will be a Miss Mara contest in the festival, a secretary of the Mara Student’s Association said. The MSA provides financial assistance to those who cannot attend school, collage and university and they appoint volunteer teachers for private schools in Maraland during the annual meeting of youth and students. Moreover, they have an annual motto for the development of the future of students and they try to accomplish this every year. The MSA started celebrating the social festival in 1966. It was organized by the first batch of students of the University. Mara Youth Association was the only legal registered organization and had the liberty to work for social welfare in Chin state under the government of Myanmar. Source: Khonumthung News
